Entitled, “Inner-Critics” by Kira J. Washington
"In this piece, I wanted to capture the concept of ‘the inner-critics’. Although the source of our inner-critics, i.e. Parents, Teachers, Partners, Coaches, Former school mates, etc., may vary the common thread is that they are always ready to pounce; to slice us up, infect us, and make us bleed with fear and self-doubt.
My favorite part of this piece, is its center. You can see how the inner-critics have pulled apart the heart and the figure, sadly looking downward, trying to protect it. Also, you can see, in the upper left and right corners, the critics mouths are open and the figure’s is closed, rather silenced.”
